I was just wondering if there are any of you guys out there that feel the same way that i do about there being more stations on the radio that play music that isn't what you like ?I live in Delaware and we have five stations that play rap and R&B and only three that play heavy Metal / alternitive music which I like . I hope this doesn't mean that in a few years the only music that will be around to listen to is rap. I hope that doesn't happen well that's all for me .
see ya
XM radio is the key to solve your problem! I keep telling your sister she needs it, so maybe when she gets it, you can get on a family plan with her!
For the meantime, you can always listen to online radio if you have a computer that allows. I love Iceberg Radio, which is in Canada. Our local radio sucks a lot worse than the Delaware offering that you describe, believe me!
they will play the most popular genre its obvious
xm radio is the wy to go .. it's brilliant.
But, no, as long as there is enough customer base that likes a certain genre there will be stations playing that type of music. Advertizers try to makret to target groups and they associated alternative/heavy metal with certain products and the radio is the best means for them to get to those customers, hence there is money to be made advertizing on stations appealing to thse people which creates the commercial base for an atlernative/metal station, and I can't see that changing at all. In fact I am seeing the musical trends moving away from rp r&b at the moment more towards guitar based rock.
cheers

I can't say much about XM because I don't have it, but remember you ahve to not only buy equipment to receive it but you'll be paying so much a month to receive it. Internet radio usually doesn't cost you extra and there are many varieties of not only formats but stations and styles of broadcasting. If you use Winamp and ahve a fairly recent version, you can go play with the Winamp library. If not, the same stuff is at www.shoutcast.com I think.
True actually.
XM equipment is anywhere between $50 and $250, depending on what you get (it's a bit much) and subscription is $12.95/month, you get over 200 channels and you can listen to them anywhere in the U.S. no distortion or random noise and some of the channels are really awesome, I don't have it though only tried it on a long drive in a rental car and it was amazing, additional radios are $6.95/month subscription and, no, it's definitely not cheap but e.g. compared to tv cable I think, for me, it's a better investment and it's got a lot of very cool channels.
Oh, I see they jacked up the subscription by three bucks. I don't know. Outside of my own music I listen to so little music on radio that I just can't justify getting XM when the net has so much choice. I'd still like ot check it out for an extended period of time so I can get a feel for the stations. I'm told that the channels tend not to always concentrate on just playing hits like commercial radio does. I'm also told that Sirius satellite radio does tend to keep with the more familiar songs when they play music. Maybe somebody can give me a confirm or deny on it.
Does XM have a chanel with Christian music?
You can also try out www.thehardstuff.net, and they do have an online skedual for show times on their website as well as up to the minute news.
we have Kerrang here they play nothing but metal
Yeap, I belive I found 2 channels with Christian music on XM when I had it. They had some channels just for British music, oldies and some with totally bizarre music so some channels concentrate on the top 20 sort of thing but a lot of channels are more like NPR in that they play their own selections.
cool, will check it out
also if you guys are into sports. and baseball. Listen to home plate trademark, woot, they'll broadcast every single solitary team.
Also, you might want to check out the following web site: http://www.themusicnet.us:7002/
And I'm mighty glad to be working for the music net for these many weeks! big thanks to the mannagement for having me on board!
Watson, you got Super 91.7! They are dance! You are lucky, you have a dance station right there in Willmington that you don't have to pay for! San Fransisco is also lucky, they have Energy 92-7. You get rockers out of philly, you get WYSP and WMMR, of corse if you FM DX like me and/or traded airchecks, you could get your formats from other markets. XM is great but there are no jocks other then on the deckaids channels. There is "The Fish" which is Christian rock on XM, then there is also a Christian AC as well which I don't remember what it is called. From my home town iof Bensalem, here are the rockers I get. This includes the rockers I'm able to get via my DX setup and Yamaha T-85 tuner. WMMR 93.3, WYSP 94.1, WMGK 102.9, WBBO 98.5 (Translator for for G 106-3 G Rock radio) I have at times gotten the folowing rockers but its rare... WGBH "93.5 The Beach" Unknown calls "99.1 The Sound" Aulturnative from the Outer Banks of NC. John
yes, I have sirius sat here, like it much better then the sample xm gave on there website. sirius has jawks on all there channels, decades and otherwise. and if you're in to hockey, sirius has a similar package for the nhl, like xm does for baseball. Sirius will provide coverage of every single team and game. There college football/b-ball is also great. and if you want to find conventional radio stations from all over the world, hit vtuner.com, great little site for finding online streams
Hey, I like heavy metal also. And ware I live, we have like one rock station. And the farest they have gotten with heavy metal is system of a down. The station is called k rock. I like to call it gay rock. But that is about. I like different types of music. So I listen to z100 sometimes.
